The Silex 400 is built around Merida’s Lite II aluminium frame, designed with triple-butted tubing and smooth welding for strength and a premium finish. Internal cable routing keeps things tidy, while tyre clearance for up to 45c rubber (42c with mudguards) means you can run wide-volume tyres for grip and comfort on rough ground.
The geometry takes inspiration from mountain bikes, with a longer top tube, short stem, and slack angles to deliver stable, confident handling off-road while remaining responsive on the road. A full carbon CF2 fork keeps weight low and steering precise, with clearance for up to 47c tyres if you want even more cushion and grip.
Shimano’s GRX 400 gravel-specific groupset is made for mixed terrain, with a 2x10-speed setup using a 46/30T chainset and 11-36T cassette for a wide range that covers both steep climbs and fast road sections. Hydraulic disc brakes with oversized 180mm rotors offer controlled braking power in all conditions, with calipers mounted neatly on the chainstays to spread braking forces and reduce stress on the frame.
The build includes Merida’s tubeless-ready Expert SL III wheels, strong enough for gravel but efficient on the road, wrapped in 45c Maxxis Rambler tyres. These feature a gravel tread pattern that balances low rolling resistance with dependable off-road grip. Practical touches make the Silex ready for adventure: five bottle cage mounts, rack and mudguard fittings, hidden dropper post compatibility, and even the option to run a dynamo system for self-supported touring.
Comfort is further enhanced by Merida’s Comp CC seatpost and Comp SL saddle, with sustainable materials used in their construction. The Silex platform has proven itself at the highest level too – including a Gravel World Championship win just before its launch – showing that this bike balances adventure capability with real performance.
Whether you’re loading up for a bikepacking trip, tackling bridleways, or linking quiet roads with off-road detours, the Merida Silex 400 is a versatile and confidence-inspiring gravel bike that’s ready to go wherever the ride takes you.
