Specialized Roubaix SL8 Review
Smoother is Faster
Born on the cobbles of Roubaix and 20 years of innovation, the Specialized Roubaix SL8 offers riders a sustainable riding position as well as a smoother and faster ride on rougher roads.
Compliance
The new Roubaix offers riders a compliant ride compared to rigid road bikes. The all-new Future Shock 3.0 up front, and AfterShock technology in the rear, reduce impacts by 53% vs. rigid frames. With this technology, riders will be comfortable and in control on rough roads with reduced fatigue. All while having nimble handling and precise power transfer.
Performance
The Roubaix SL8 is the lightest and most aerodynamic version of the Roubaix to date. Made up from the new 12r carbon which saves additional weight and improves ride quality. This frame is 50 grams lighter than the previous iteration. With updated lower seat stays, a deeper down tube, and an improved headtube and fork shape saves up to 17.7 seconds over 100 miles.
Tunability
With Future Shock 3.0 riders can now tune how the shock reacts to the terrain. With 3 different spring settings on offer, riders can adjust damping to cope with different type of road surfaces they are facing. Firm, medium and soft settings offer with up to 20mm of travel available. The Future Shock 3.0 absorbs impact and road vibrations delivering a faster ride.
AfterShock Technology
Specialized’s Pave Seatpost and Dropped clamp design make up AfterShock technology. The Pave Seatpost keeps the rear of the bike rigid for direct and efficient power transfer. Sitting 65mm lower than a traditional clamp design creates a longer lever on the seatpost and the maximum amount of rear deflection for a compliant and efficient ride.
Tyre Clearance
There is up to 6mm of tyre clearance between the frame/fork and tyre. Riders will be able to fit up to 40mm wide tyres on the Roubaix SL8. With tyre clearance up to 38c/40mm this endurance road machine smooths out rougher roads and can even cope with a little gravel. Higher volume tyres offer efficient rolling resistance, precise handling and confident traction.
Roubaix SL8
The Roubaix SL8 is available in 5 different models. The S-Works, Pro, Expert, Comp and Sport. These models will feature 3 different levels of Future Shock technology and specifications. The S-Works and Pro models feature Future Shock 3.3, Expert and Comp feature Future Shock 3.2 and Sport models feature Future Shock 3.1. If riders did wish to upgrade to a higher level Future Shock they will be available as an aftermarket item.
For riders looking for a little more comfort over longer distances or looking to tackle rougher roads, the Specialized Roubaix SL8 will be a great partner for the ride.
